Anesthesia T32 Programs

Ruth L. Kirschstein Institutional National Research Service Award (T32)

Program Purpose

To enable institutions to make National Research Service Awards to individuals selected by them for predoctoral and postdoctoral research training in specified shortage areas. The goal of this program is to prepare qualified predoctoral and/or postdoctoral trainees for careers that have a significant impact on the health-related research needs of the Nation. These institutional grants usually provide 2 years of protected research time after completion of the anesthesiology residency requirements with a commitment of 80% time to research and 20% time to clinical activities. They are a great opportunity for aspiring anesthesiologist-scientists to get involved in research projects that can launch their independent careers.

There are currently 15 Anesthesiology Departments holding current NIGMS T32 grants. For a list of these institutions see the following website.
