Early-Stage Anesthesiology Scholars

An academic home for developing scholars.

eSAS is led by trainees, for trainees. We exist so early-career anesthesiologist-scientists can find mentorship, collaborators, and a path that keeps them in researchnot just a meeting badge.

eSAS serves the interests of early-career anesthesiologist-scientists by providing an academic home for developing scholars in anesthesiology.

Who we serve

  • Medical students exploring research-track residencies
  • Residents and fellows building a scholarly identity
  • Junior faculty launching independent programs
  • Mentors and partners who want the pipeline to hold

Mission

Mentorship that is both scientific and practical

Foster peer and senior mentorship on career and scientific topicshow to choose a question, a mentor, a track, and a life that can hold all three.

02

Support for people who want an academic career

Support the needs and interests of young professionals who are building an academic career in anesthesiology, from first poster to first independent grant.

03

A network that actually collaborates

Enhance peer networking and collaborative opportunities, and keep the sharing of ideas and enthusiasm from stopping at the reception.

04

Keep motivated scholars in the pipeline

Develop strategiesinstitutional, regional, national, and internationalthat support retention of anesthesiologist-scientists and reduce attrition at every stage.

Impact

Scholars Day and annual meetings

A dedicated program at IARS/SOCCA (and sessions with ASA and FAER) on starting a lab or clinical program, funding, publishing, teaching, and resiliencebuilt for early-career scholars, not adapted from a senior track.

Maps of the path

Curated guidance on research-track residencies, T32 fellowships, FAER and IARS mentored grants, and NIH K-series awards, so applicants are not reconstructing the map alone.

A seat at the table

eSAS participates in planning conversations at ASA, IARS, AUA, and FAER so junior faculty and trainees are present when meetings and initiatives are designednot only when they are announced.

Join the home, not just the listserv.

Membership is open to early-career scholars and to faculty who want the next generation to stay.
