Grants and Funding

Cameron Bosinski, MD, MS has written an article on Funding Sources for Anesthesiology Researchers.

Foundation grants provide protected time to anesthesiologist-scientists to get back to their research in a meaningful way and also provide external validation to the host institution that a candidate is committed to an academic career and has the potential to succeed.

Both FAER and IARS offer mentored training grants that may be of interest to SAS members. Also see our Member list for those members who may have applied for or obtained the award you are interested in applying for.

Mentored Career Development Awards (K08, K23, K25, K76, K99/R00, and the R03/GEMSSTAR program) are offered by multiple NIH Institutes. The Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08) and the Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) exist in the areas of anesthesiology, clinical pharmacology, trauma and burn injury to support the development of outstanding academic physician-scientists. These awards provide support for a period of 3 to 5 years of supervised research and study to clinically trained professionals who have the commitment and potential to develop into productive, independent investigators. The awards support developmental experiences in either a laboratory or a clinical research setting.
